Incoherent ramblings
Apologies to whoever reads this as it's probably a bit mince, you've had to watch enough all season. I hope this isn't as bad an experience as say the 3-1 loss at home to Hibs. Given the current state of things down Fir Park way I'm not really too sure what to write about the mighty MFC. To be blunt it's not been a season I'll remember with much fondness. The dispute over win bonuses or bonus for euro qualification or whatever the hell it was about seems laughable now; it was then, it's just even funnier now.
I'm not looking forward to the run in with much relish either, I hope the likes of Lasley, Ramsay, McFadden, Pearson, Wood, Dempsie and Stevie Nicholas (Nicholas on the wing please) all get a few games to see how they cope at SPL level. Hopefully 1 or 2 will be ready to play a regular part of the team next season.
However we have no recognised strikers left at the club and certainly none with physical presence. Getting Goodman off the wage bill might be better in the long run but I feel he would have been the ideal person to play alongside Adams or Wood until the end of the season. A figure loved by some and thought of as a diddy by others he at least had a nuisance factor and could provide a focal point for our attacks if he remained fit.
The likes of Twaddle and Elliot will probably end up as makeshift strikers. Though I don't yet want to start calling for the managers head he sometimes, too often, seems to get his elbow confused with his arse. Dragging Twaddle and Hammell half fit (if that in Twaddle's case) back into the 1st XI against Hearts last Saturday being the most recent poor choice. The shuffling of the pack once the aforementioned players limped off doesn't bear thinking about. Nicholas up front and Adams back in midfield, makes you wonder.
Like Motherwell's hopes of glory my hopes of a Pulitzer prize this season are long gone, we've only the future to look forward to. Davies has been making noises about being prepared for next season but if the Well don't hit the ground running then he might find even less fans prepared to back him this time. He'll have to show visible signs of learning from past mistakes, sure the same fans that called Mcleish a useless diddy who couldn't manage a pub (myself included) might be saying the same about Davies, yet look at Mr "best young manager in Scotland" now but the money has dried up for Billy and his management skills will be put to the test.
Anyway this has hardly been a rallying call to Well fans I realise but its late (about 2am), I'm tired and there's nothing worse than continual uncertainty (and consistently not winning your home games) to get you down, apart from near certain doom and even Airdrie look to have survived that. I think it's time for some fundamental changes in Scottish football, the game in general has become too money fixated and it's time to take a reality check. No Scottish club can afford to compete with the old firm, not consistently anyway, so it's time we helped them pack for the Atlantic league or whatever and rid ourselves of their sectarian pish once and for all and look forward to going to watch some meaningful games for a change.
