Oh, Wullie, Wullie..
No.14 Willie Pettigrew
Willie Pettigrew has long been held in high esteem by the Fir Park faithful. Willie was, and still is, a Motherwell supporter and therefore achieved every fan’s dream of playing for his team. He made his debut at home to St Johnstone on 27 October 1973, but it was 74/75 that Willie really made his mark on Scottish football.
Following sporadic appearances, Willie McLean made the decision that mattered - he gave Willie the number 8 t-shirt. In the remaining 21 games he scored 21 goals. Willie possessed blistering pace and a typical goal involved outstripping defences from the half way line before scoring.
In all Willie played 185 games for Well and scored 93 goals, he was also capped at full and under 23 level. Following his time at Fir Park Willie played for Dundee United, Hearts, Morton and finished his career at Hamilton Accies (enough to finish any career).
