Ayr United head south to take on Fulham on the Friday afternoon in the IFA Cup Final. It’s generally accepted that Kaisayr are one of the best teams in Scotland, if not the UK. However, this season has been more of a struggle with their form taking a dip over the course of the last few months. A run of disappointing draws against Kilmarnock, Hearts, St Johnstone and Falkirk shows that all is not lost. That said the Ayr side did pull off one of the shocks of the year by defeating Inter Milan by 2-0 in their own backyard back in March. In the only fixture between the sides this season Ayr defeated the Corner 3-1, Of course, as KaisAyr’s own website points out that they have a good record against both ourselves and Hearts. There is no question that Kaisayr will provide a stiff test.
Fir Park Corner’s record against Real Maroon does little to inspire any sort of result against the Hearts representatives in the tournament. The Edinburgh side have handed out numerous defeats over the years as the Corner continue to wait for their first victory. FPC came close earlier this season after a spirited performance by a under strength squad in the capital. The 3-2 defeat didn’t convey the effort by the side under difficult circumstances. The last match between the sides saw FPC concede five in the first 20 minutes on the way to a 10-1 defeat something which manager Fraser will be keen to avoid.
Millwall were group opponents for the Corner last year. An excellent performance ended in disappointment following a last minute equaliser. By all accounts Millwall have had an excellent year in the IFA League, holding off strong competition to take back the title. This will prove another difficult match for FPC however last year’s draw is encouraging, it is possible that the team can go one better this time around especially considering that Millwall have enter two teams into the competition.
Further action on the Saturday is provided in the form of three friendly matches. Fir Park Corner will play Dunfermline, Doncaster Rovers and Swindon Town. Glory awaits!
