The playing conditions were absolutely horrific and there was very little in the way of good football on show. The home side took the lead against the run of play when a suspiciously offside-looking striker ran through on goal. His shot looked net-bound but it rebounded off the post to hand another Diamond an easy finish.
It wasn't long before the Corner equalised when Michael Anderson blasted home after a poor defensive header landed perfectly for him to smash into the net. The Motherwell boys soon found themselves a goal up and it was another midfielder on the scoresheet. Tony O'Neill placed an excellent long-range effort looping over the goalkeeper and into the net.
FPC doubled their lead before the interval when Joe Lynas collected a pass from Gerard Maguire and burst through the defence to round the goalkeeper for a simple finish.
Just as the game seemed to be petering out, the home side pulled a goal back. A nice move up the left hand side resulted in a tidy close-range finish at the near post. This seemed to give the Corner the kick they needed and they soon put the contest to rest. Joe Lynas rounded the goalie three times, once squaring the ball to Dave Hendry for an easy finish, to compound the stopper's misery.
Indeed, Lynas could have had four goals to his credit if the referee hadn't blown his whistle for full time with the striker bearing down on goal. Still a magnificent away win for the Motherwell side ahead of next week's showdown with last seasons league champions in
