The goal which won the game was a nice move from the visiting IML team and featured several players participating in a passing move which started at the half way line. FPC missed a couple of chances to intervene and clear their lines but when the ball eventually found its way to the feet of a striker, he made no mistake in drilling the ball beyond Farmer.
FPC battled hard but were second best in the first half. There were a couple of half chances which might have fallen slightly better with a break of the ball but in truth IML could have had the game wrapped up. They blasted a few good opportunities high and wide and Farmer made a couple of saves to keep the score down.
The troops seemed down at half time but a tactical change by Frazzle (it was someone else’s idea but let’s not be picky!) brought FPC back into it. Reverting to 4-5-1 allowed FPC to match the visitors three man midfield and the hosts began to dominate. Clear cut chances were few and far between though, with Topper just failing to connect at the back post and a Fraz volley off the bar being as close as they came to an equaliser.
IML missed some chances on the break to put the game beyond doubt but in the end they had to settle for victory by the solitary goal. FPC manager Frazzle has now lost count of the number of consecutive defeats suffered by his sides but commented; ‘Today was another hard luck story for the lads and I honestly believe that we deserved something from the game. I felt we dominated the second half and were unlucky not to score. Credit must go to the defence for only losing the one unfortunate goal, but we must work on penetration at the other end. Another step forward was taken this morning and we can't be too far off the first victory now.’
Their next opportunity will probably be on the morning of the Killie league game.
