We fell to a double whammy. Firstly we failed to take advantage of our early superior possession and paid the price when Dargo took advantage of a calamitous moment of indecision which saw both Craigan and McLean stand like statues while the striker latched on to the long ball over the top to have an unimpeded run in of goal. His efficient finish put us one behind after half an hour.
No threat from a good position
O'Donnell might have had first blood when he ran on to a through ball inside the first five minutes. His shot from close range forced Brown into the first of several good stops. McDonald and Foran seemed guilty of being over elaborate and half chances came all too infrequently.
The atmosphere was a bit eerie with the hundred ICT fans placed in the main stand while the usual away end was left to a few ball boys. Our use of the white away strip also seemed out of place. The treasurer will notice a big difference in the takings compared to the games in the last six which we enjoyed in the last couple of seasons.
Butcher restored
The second sucker punch came early in the second half. We fell for the heavy handed tactics from the visitors as a few hefty challenges crept into the game. McCormack needlessly involved himself in on handbag incident and was booked for his trouble. Two minutes later his over zealous tackle on Tokley was rewarded with a second caution and he was off for the early bath. The game was over as a contest.
The
It was a poor show and there was little on show to encourage fans to cough up for the last four games. Surely now it is time to ring some changes as we start to build for next season?
