Played Three, Lost Three

McDonald, restored to the starting eleven along with Clarkson, McBride and Reynolds, had a header hit the bar inside the first minute. That set the opening tone and we enjoyed by far the best of the opening spell. A couple of half chances followed before Clarkson was presented with our best chance of the game McDonald threaded a pass along the edge of the box but our number twelve made a mess of his attempt with the left foot.

Skippy worked hard

We lost the first after half an hour – and it was a shocker! A Harmless punt over the defence caused Smith to run from goal with hand raised. Craigan shepherded the ball against Mackie who chased what should have been a lost cause. We got into a fankle and the Don emerged with the ball. He had an open goal and made no mistake dispite Craigan's valiant efforts to recover.

The undeserved goal was just the tonic the visitors needed and they made the best of their good fortune. They scored the second after an hour. Again questions have to be asked of our defence. A corner from the East Stand side was headed into Smith but he seemed to spill it and Mackie pounced again.

Easy take for langfield

Malpas then employed the Calderwood tactic and sent on the cavalry in the shape of Foran and Hamilton. We played the last fifteen minutes with four up front but though the effort was evident there was little made in the way of goal attempts.

Our new manager will find the league table revealing that we have taken no points from a possible nine. We are away at Easter Road next week – that must be a home banker, surely?
