There was no surprise in team selection and the eleven who had found their scoring boots against St Johnstone were charged with facing United in the rearranged game.
Murphy had two fine chances to score in the opening minutes. The first, in 30 seconds, came when he drove into the box from the left wing. His shot was stopped by Cierzniak down at his left post. Higdon was the provider for Murphy's second attempt when he cut a ball back from the dead ball line. Again, his effort from around five yards was stopped.
Gunning tested Randolph with this one
Although we had the better of the first half, United too, had their moments. Gunning's 23 yard free kick brought out a stunning double stop from Randolph. Ojamaa was a constant threat to the United defence. His direct running attracted a swarm of white shirts but he still managed to hit the woodwork twice. Before the break his powerful shot rocked the bar but the teams trooped off for their pep talks with the score 0-0.
The game resumed with the rain sheeting across the pitch. Ojamaa, after a one-two with Law, fired low across the goal face and with the 'keeper beaten the ball stuck the base of the post. It was begining to look like 'one of those nights'.
At the other end United forced a series of corners and following the third there were claims from the players and the 400 United fans in the South Stand that the ball had crossed the line.
Humphrey then produced a couple of bursts from his right wing beat. From the first he cut the ball back to Higdon but the striker's effort from the penalty spot lack power. Next, the winger reached the angle of the six yard box but his low shot, on the same line as Ojamaa's earlier effort, just missed the far post.
The game was lost inside the last ten minutes when Russell found space in the left side of our penalty area. Watson fired in a long ball and the resulting header looped high over Randolph and into the net. The game was lost.
If we make as many chances against Dundee on Saturday we'll surely score a few!
