Odd Goal Costs 'Well Dear

We gifted Killie the opener in the seventh minute when a needless, loose passback from Fitzpatrick forced Meldrum to handle. Wright fired the tapped free kick low into the right hand corner. The goal brought back bad memories, had we not stopped gifting the opposition early goals?

Foran scores the first equaliser

Elliot should have equalised minutes later when his pace got him ahead of a defender to face the keeper but his shot was poor.

Clarkson was rewarded for his tireless running when Wright pulled him down inside the box. Foran grabbed the ball and smashed it into the net. All square after twenty five minutes.

It looked like we would reach the break safely enough, though Nish came close and the woodwork saved us, but we gifted them another in the last minute of the half.

A long punt of a free kick floated deep into the box and Meldrum came off his line and missed with his punch. Wright headed home. 2-1

The second half saw our defence have a few nervous wobbles including an inexplicable handball from Craigan.

The game was already fast and exciting but it exploded on the hour. With the home crowd baying for the ball to be knocked out of play as Leven was sprawling on the turf, Kerr crossed to Clarkson at the far corner of the six yard box.

He took an age to control it but managed to slot the ball into the net. Our fans celebrated, their fans booed and at the dugout Jerrfies made a comment which caused Malpas to square up. He was sent to the stand but we were level again. 2-2

Invincible scored the winner with an 18 yard drive which gave Meldrum no chance. We battled on but it looked unlikely that we would recover. Reynolds had a flyer over the top in injury time.

Both managers agreed later that it had been a "great cup tie" but  our interest in the competition is now over for another year.
