Another poor showing from Motherwell. It looked as though we could have played for hours without scoring. Opposition goalies much relish the chance to play against us.
Motherwell took to the field in the white away strips with four changes from the previous outing. Team selection had to be tweaked due to the late illness of Vigurs.
Law and Lasley kicked off and for all of a minute and a half we kept a clean sheet. We were breached with a simple one-two and Hayes had time to place the ball beyond Twardzik from 8 yards. Once again a hesitation from McManus cost us. The pre-match plans were in tatters.
We clawed our way back into the game and managed four corners by the first 15 minutes but only a high shot from McManus was noteworthy. Ramsden added to the pressure with a headed corner just over the top.
The break was reached without further loss but we had still to force the Aberdeen ‘keeper into a save. The home side still looked more likely but we were still in the game.
Aberdeen made the better start to the second period but we survived. There was little action at either goalmouth and our forward moves tended to break down with misplaced passes or hopeful crosses. Reid forced Brown into his first save with a decent long range effort.
McCall removed the ineffective Ojamaa and Law with 15 minutes remaining and went for broke with Erwin and McHugh. There was no late surge and the Dons defence coped well with any half hearted attack that came their way.
Aisnworth got a very late run when he replaced Francis-Angol but the clock and lack of any decent attacking gave the home side the three points.
