Motherwell come away from Pittodrie with a 3-1 defeat and an injured goalkeeper. Jake Hastie scored our goal but we failed to create enough in the opposition half to threaten Aberdeen.
Stephen Robinson made one change from his regular starting line up as Carl McHugh got the nod ahead of Alex Rodriguez-Gorrin. Our hosts got he game underway and we faced the beach end in the first half.
We fell behind before any of the twenty two on the pitch had time to break sweat. Aberdeen’s left back, Max Lowe, found himself in possession on the touchline 20 odd yards out. His speculative deep cross flew over Mark Gillespie and into the top corner of the net. The lucky break was a tough early blow.
The game plodded on at a fairly sedate pace. Aberdeen fell deep when we were in possession but our use of the ball was more side to side than forward. The Dons produced a few half chances as they broke into attack mode.
Jake Hastie equalised in 36 minutes with our first attempt. Richard Tait was the provider with a deep ball that our youngster collected inside the box. A touch to the left beat Lewis and he rolled the ball into the net.
In the second period neither team was able to take charge but that changed following a clash inside our box after 66 minutes. Gillespie suffered an injury to his leg and had to be carried from the pitch. Rohan Ferguson made his first team debut as he took his place between the sticks but within two minutes he had to pick the ball from his net.
A shot from Greg Stewart was deflected into the path of McGinn and from close range the ball whistled past the substitute ‘keeper. It was a tough introduction and depite the late arrival of Chris Cadden and Elliott Frear the game petered out.
There were seven minutes additional time as a result of Gillespie’s treatment and with the last kick of the game McGinn produced a stunning curling effort to complete the game
Motherwell will finish the season with five games against teams in the bottom half of the table as we start the long preparations for next season.
