It was a barely recognisable line up. In front of Smith were a back four of Paterson, McLean, Donnelly and Quinn. The midfield was Reynolds, Fitzpatrick, Kerr and McGarry with Clarkson and Hamilton up front.
We looked unsure (understandably) in defence though Donnelly looked solid. McGarry came on to a game later on and always posed a threat. Reynolds provided the legs for left back
The turning point came with around twenty minutes remaining. Smith made a spectacular point blank save and we began to take charge. Clarkson, tireless as ever, had a double shot and McGarry fired wide.
Hammell and Corrigan replaced Hamilton and Quinn and the transformation was complete. Within minutes Corrigan swept a lovely cross into the box. Clarkson threw himself at the ball and his header eluded everyone to finish in the net.
The youngsters did well enough to earn a start on Saturday. Let's hope their celebrations are put on ice for a few days.
