The Reply
I was quite upset when I first heard that Motherwell were, supposedly, selling tickets in order to prevent ‘Well fans from sitting near the away end in the East Stand. I decided to find out what exactly was going on.
I sent an e-mail to Fir Park basically asking what was going on and making it clear ‘Well fans were not happy with this. I also politely pointed out that Motherwell were the home team – not Celtic.
Here’s the reply I got earlier today:-
“Dear Jason,
I can confirm that all seats in the East Stand were available for the Celtic match, however, the ticket sales were issued in number order starting from seats 1 through to seats 184.
This is purely organised to control ticket sales only, it is not intended to block or ban spectators from being near the away support.
I attempted to respond to the Fir Park Corner comments last week but failed to connect via my mailing address.
I would stress that there has been some concern with our spectator safety since the events of the Glasgow Central Station incident and it did raise safety issues with Strathclyde Police and myself as Safety Officer.
However, I can only apologise if the ticket allocation was misinterpreted by our spectators, the fact that we have the right to sell tickets in order of row numbers is a commercial decision coupled with the safety of spectators.
Please forward this to your spectator colleagues, should you wish to discuss this matter further you are most welcome to contact me.
Best Regards
Ken Davies
Safety Officer”
I still don’t know what to think about the situation – you can make up your own minds.
However, I am pleased that I actually got a reply from Fir Park – far too many times in the past have e-mails and letters from myself went unnoticed.
The Legend
What happened to Dougie Arnott’s testimonial?
If my memory serves me right, plans for wee Dougie’s match were discussed shortly before Motherwell went into administration.
This has went on far too long – I understand that we may not be able to hold a testimonial match whilst we’re in administration, but we can’t forget about it.
When the great day comes that we move out of administration, the fans should make sure that Motherwell Football Club give Dougie Arnott the testimonial match he deserves.
Dougie! Dougie! Dougie!
