Support The Team!
Above everything else it’s time for the team to know we’re there for them. Fir Park is beginning to sound more like Castle Greyskull out Govan way – unless it’s an Old Firm game it can be disappointingly quite. This is no way to stir the team on to greater efforts. What was a ‘Well fan given a voice for? Even when the players are not having one of their better days they need to hear us encouraging them – not getting on their backs, as seems to have become more fashionable these days.
One player I especially think needs the support to keep his morale high is the superb Martyn “Kaiser” Corrigan. Martyn can only be disappointed that, despite some excellent performances and a high level of consistency throughout the season, he has been overlooked by our international visionaries in favour of two young reserve players from the “ Old Firm”. If ever a player deserved international recognition it is Martyn, but as usual we have found to our cost, form is not what gets you in the door – it is your blue or green shirt!
On The Buses
Great to see the club recognizing the sterling support given to the ‘Well away from home this season. The free transport provided by the club for the cup tie at Killie was much appreciated by one and all, and can only encourage more fans to travel on the free buses to Cumbernauld for our tie against Clyde in the next round later this month. One idea might be of good use to the club to boost the away support for the Clyde game – subsidizing the adverts in the local papers – Motherwell Times, Bellshill Speaker, Wishaw Press et al. This should help as not as many fans knew of the free transport as could have.
It’s Nice To Be Nice…….But Not For Too Long!
As you may have noticed, I’ve been a little nicer than usual this week – it must have been the winter break, or the fact that I’m listening to Janet Jackson while I write this, but if you’re a closet ‘Well fan or a fair weather supporter…………….get your finger out!!!!!!
More to the point get yourself down Fir Park way between now and the end of the season and give your team the support it needs and deserves to keep us in the Premier League for next season.
I’m fed up with all of these so-called ‘Well fans – the support of the club has been in a constant and steady decline since we won the cup in ’91. Being a ‘Well fan means through thick and thin. In closing, if anything I’ve said in this column has struck a chord or even offended you closet fans – tough! It’s more than you deserve!
So if this web-site is the closest you are to being a fan – get to the game……
