Our last few games have been those from which most fans were expecting some result. The players would not be human if they did not view home matches against United and Kilmarnock and a trip to Firhill as the perfect chance to change our fortunes. The fans turned up in numbers filling the stand behind the goal at Firhill but were let down again. Motherwell started the brighter side and nearly scored through Derek Adams and his chance lifted the Motherwell crowd. But that chance was basically it for ‘Well who did not have many more opportunities. It was Partick who took the lead through Martin Hardie and they could have been more than one up at the break. In the second half, it wasn’t long before they went two u, and then former ‘Well player Alex Burns slotted home from no more than sixteen yards to put the game out of our reach.
Following that defeat, ‘Well’s next game was at home to Killie and everyone was hoping for a repeat of our performance at Rugby Park in August. But yet again this game was not to be good for us. The match was tied at 0-0 until the ninety-first minute when Kris Boyd fired a free kick past the Motherwell goalie to make Kilmarnock fans head home happily with three points and hand out another defeat to Motherwell.
The most recent match, Dundee United at home, was a relegation battle as the two teams at the bottom went head to head at Fir Park. Unfortunately another poor performance by ‘Well meant another week went past without a win. Dundee United goals came from Jim Hamilton and our late strike came from big Dirk.
So now the fans focus on next week’s away game at Hibs where it looks as if we could be facing yet another defeat. Hopefully the Motherwell fans will get there in numbers but after the last couple of games it is hard to expect a big turnout. After that we face a tough away game to Celtic where most, if not all, Motherwell fans are waiting to see how many goals we concede.
So at the moment it looks as if Motherwell fans will be seeing teams such as Ayr and Alloa at Fir Park next year. However, we must all stick together and emerge stronger when the bad run is over.
Prediction for Hibs game: Hibs 3 Motherwell 0
