New Signings
We managed to sign a few new players ourselves before the deadline last week. Full Back David Cowan has been signed from Newcastle and Ian Russell has arrived at Fir Park from Rangers. These players have been playing in the under-21 side and Russell even managed a hat-trick against Hearts. Not a bad start! Terry Butcher has also managed to sign ex-East Fife forward Steven Ferguson from Spurs on loan until January. He has featured in the last two games and has looked pretty good up front alongside Lehmann and Faddy.
Recent Games
Dundee United 1 'Well 1
I think the phrase "A game of two halves" was made for this game! In the first half 'Well dominated and I still don't know how we only got the one goal before half time. The second half was a completely different story. We lost a goal in the first minute of the half through Jim McIntyre and Utd could have had 2 or 3 more like 'Well should have had in the opening 45 minutes. In the end though, I think a draw was a fair result.
'Well 0-2 Hibs - How many 'Well fans were confident of a win before the game last Saturday? Not very many I would think. You all know the story, team struggling for points at the bottom of the league always end their bad run against 'Well. Never fails! Derek Townsley scored both goals to make the result even worse. I'm pretty sure he left the ground a happy man! What I would like to know is if he got booked for over celebrating his first goal, why wasn't he sent off for doing the same thing after his second goal? It doesn't really matter because I thought we got what we deserved from the game - nothing!
Scotland U21s
It was good to see three of our best players getting involved with Scotland this week. Hammell, Pearo and Faddy all played a big part in both games and that can only be a good thing for their confidence. I don't think it will be very long before they are in Berti Vogts' squad if you look at how well the team did in the Faroes today! I think that Faddy should definitely be in the team, as we don't have a player like him who can take on defenders the way he does, although I don't think the other two would be in the team, they would probably be on the bench.
Prediction
We've got two really tough games in the space of five days this week. On Tuesday night we face champions Celtic at Fir Park and then on Sunday we go to Tynecastle to play Hearts. The Celtic game will be really tough and it will extremely hard for us to get anything. One plus point will be that a lot of their players will still be a bit tired from the international games and that could maybe work to our advantage. Even so, I don't think we will get anything from the game and Celtic will take all three points. The Hearts game on the Sunday won't be much easier. I don't think we've won there in a while and unfortunately I think that run will continue. The defenders will have to be aware of the threat of Mark de Vries and Gary Wales so they will be in for a hard days work. Given last week's game, I wouldn't be surprised if another ex-'Well player got a goal - Kevin Twaddle. So, zero points out of six I think.
'Well 1-2 Celtic
Hearts 3-1 'Well
That's all for now!
