'Well 1 Chievo 1 Report

The ‘Well fans who turned up on a wet Tuesday night got a chance to cheer their team as James McFadden grabbed a late equaliser before showing off his ‘Well Worth Saving T-shirt. John Boyle was in his normal seat as the game kicked off. Terry Butcher’s first starting eleven was captained by Eric Deloumeaux and many fans made the assumption that ‘he must be staying’. Time will tell.

The Frenchman was in the company of Messers Ramsay, Corrigan and Hammell in the back four and they held the line well. Eric was his usual untroubled self while Corrigan coped well in this unusual role.

We started with an adventurous 4-3-3. Lasley, Adams and Pearson in the middle and Elliott, Lehmann and McFadden up front.

The game began in steady drizzle and that set the mood of the first half hour or so. There were few goalmouth incidents but a few niggling tackles began to liven up proceedings. Indeed there was a fifteen player rammy as the first half drew to a close and the ‘friendly’ reached its midpoint with Hugh Dallas showing four yellow cards (two a piece).

Although the Italian side demonstrated good control, they seemed to struggle to get to grips with the pace of the ball coming off the greasy surface. The second half began in a heavy downpour. And again there was little to wake the crowd from its slumber.

Hammell had a shot high and wide on the hour mark and we fell behind a minute later. Duborbeau (on at half time for Woods) was well beaten from a fifteen yard header in front of the Cooper Stand.

Elliott had a chance to level almost immediately but he almost failed to strike the ball.

Faddy burst through with a couple of minutes to go and slipped in the equaliser. His celebration revealed a ‘Well Worth Saving motto across his chest and the crowd showed its appreciation.

Honours even when the final whistle sounded. The crowd was in full song and both teams were cheered off the park.

The administrator will be counting the takings but the fans will be happy at the efforts of all the players.

Bring on Dundee on Saturday.
