Winter draws on

Ex-Falkirk striker Steven Craig has been given training facilities at Fir Park. Terry Butcher has no plans to sign him at the minute but if he impresses, that could change.

Stevie Ferguson is a ‘Well player no longer. The former East Fife striker has returned to Tottenham Hotspur where he is about seventh in line for a place on the forward line. He only scored two goals in around twenty appearances for Motherwell although most were from the subs bench. However, it has to be said that if he cannot break into our team, the chances of him making it in the English Premiership look slim.

Terry Butcher and David Partridge have both been called in front of the SFA to explain comments about Ian Fyfe. Fyfe was the joker in the middle for the Partick Thistle game. Butcher should have known better and having already escaped a ban once this season, it is unlikely he will do so again. Partridge was unlucky, the only reason he spoke to the press was his equalising goal in the game.

There were various rumours that Dirk Lehmann would be off to Partick Thistle as soon as January arrived. He’s still here.

On the arrival front, all is quiet. We have been linked with a move for ex Thistle defender Danielle Chiarini but Butcher has rubbished this speculation. We probably don’t want someone with a girls name playing at centre half anyway. Butcher has said he is looking to bring in two or three players but nothing is likely to happen until next week.

James McFadden is suspended for the first four league games after the split and Stevie Hammell will miss the Kilmarnock game as well. However, Andy McLaren and Chris Innes are out for the home side.
