It’s not often that we get an excuse to visit Cappielow, our last visit was in August 2004 when we recorded a 3-0 win in the CIS cup. That put us on the road to Hampden for the 2005 final. Two of that team are still on our books – here’s a reminder of the eleven who took to the field then: Marshall, Craigan, Hammell, Corrigan, Kinniburgh, Paterson, Leitch, McBride, O’Donnell, McDonald, Clarkson.
Morton v Motherwell in 2004
It would be nice to think that win against Morton would herald another good run but if all it amounts to is a clean sweep of our pre-season games we won’t get over excited.
These games are a necessary evil. Players need the exercise and the manager has to see how his various permutations work out. For spectators there is little value in the exercise. In exchange for their £10/£5 entry they will see a game with little contact and any flow interrupted by multiple substitutions.
With any luck the weather will be kind and there might be a sight of Higdon and Law in their claret and amber outfits.
Remember the game in 2004? Here’s the report.
