The darling of the East Stand has played almost one hundred and fifty games in the first team and has , for a few years, been a fixture on the teamsheet. His energy and drive up and down the left wing contributed hugely to our great start to the season.
His relationship with Pearson and McFadden (both on and off the park) was a mainstay of the side’s progress through the last difficult years and his signing of an extension will be greeted with some joy and satisfaction by the Motherwell support.
The realisation by young Scottish players that life is not always greener on the other side could be a significant step in the restoration of the standing of the national game. Stevie’s career will almost certainly benefit by regular first team appearances for an SPL side rather than spells in the reserves for any team north or south of the border.
At the ripe old age of twenty one Stevie has committed himself to a team with gives youngsters a chance to shine and he is to be commended for his loyalty.
Terry Butcher is quoted as saying, “I am convinced that he will go all way and win full international honours. He is one of our longest serving players and proves that clubs such as Motherwell can develop players of outstanding quality."
And the man of the moment added, “I am delighted that my future has been settled and I hope that the fans keep getting behind us.”
Let’s celebrate with a three point celebration on Saturday night Stevie!
