Over two hundred members assembled in the South Dalziel Studios for the historic inaugural General Meeting of the Society. The task of hosting the meeting fell to Alan Burrows, as one of the ‘first members’ who applied for registration, and he introduced the top table comprising Leeann Dempster, Alan Marshall, David Weir, Jim McMahon and Graham Keys.
Following a procedural wrangle about the style of voting, the members made their choice from the 21 candidates and the top four were elected. Those entrusted with the duty of leading the Society are; Graham Barnstaple, Thomas Feeley, Alexander Kilpatrick and Brian McCafferty.
Members were in receipt of statements from all candidates and together they made an impressive list. Those chosen will have a big job ahead but with the help and support of the wider membership they should be able to find plenty of willing hands to move the Society forward. Best wishes to them all!
There was some discussion about the Society’s finances, forthcoming subscriptions and the need to increase membership. The Society is now entirely in the hands of its members and the club has made it clear that it is happy to make its resources available as needed.
Stuart McCall and half a dozen players made themselves available for a short question and answer session while the votes were counted and their efforts were much appreciated by the audience. It gave a fair insight to the endless banter that flows in a tight knit squad.
After the vote the club board outlined some of the challenges that lie ahead. As ever we need a good cup run and the sale of a player in the next window to ensure a good financial season. In addition, the management team and lots of players are out of contract at the end of the season.
