Warning - Close Season Ahead

There will be some little comfort to be taken from the distractions offered by the Cup Final and thereafter the stumbling attempt which the national team will take to qualify for the World Cup. It will be football without claret and amber.

Fir Park in the summer sun

The players have packed their bags and set off for some well earned relaxation. Fans will have to find some way of filling the void of an empty Saturday without the pre and post match rituals.

Minor repairs will take place at Fir Park and the pitch (celebrating its first birthday) will be tended. But the stadium will have no life. Without the players the place will be without a vital spark.

Fans will turn up to renew their season tickets and start counting the weeks until the action resumes. The squad is reported to be reassembling at the end of June and a desperate core of supporters will steal an early start by following the friendly tour.

It will pass though, and we’ll turnout in numbers for the first game of the season. Don’t you just love the opening game at Fir Park? A perfect surface, sunny weather (with any luck), fans in shirt sleeves and the prospect of a full set of games ahead is enough to send a tingle down the spine.

You never know, the SPL computer could be kind and give us a home meeting against Celtic as a curtain raiser!
