They are keen to involve all stakeholders in the review and they claim that the views of fans are ‘extremely important'. They have an online survey on uefa.com and we can only hope that the views of paying customers are given due weight.
The questions focus on entry criteria for the two main competitions (Champions League and Uefa Cup ) and among others ask
‘Do you believe that the domestic champions of all UEFA countries should have the chance to qualify for the UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE?'
and
Could the UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE format be improved by:
1. More group stage matches
2. More knock out matches
3. Having a full league format
4. Having a straight knock out
5. Introducing seeding in the KO phase? (more chance of 'big' teams progressing to the later stages of the competition, versus the unpredictability of an open draw)
Other questions relate to the distribution of Champions League revenue with one of the options being – “redistributed to encourage competitive balance in domestic competitions”.
So there we have it. They are asking the questions and, regardless of our participation in Uefa competitions, the outcome could affect Motherwell in the future.
Let them know what you think.
