The game was delayed for twenty five minutes awaiting the arrival of an assistant referee.

Motherwell started the better team and should have taken the lead as early as the fourth minute. Kenny Wright was sent clear by Kevin McDonald through the middle. The young striker did everything right and rounded the keeper but scuffed his shot wide of the far right post.

Aberdeen replied to Motherwell’s early effort with two good opportunities. First, the impressive Chris Clark’s cross come shot was scrambled over by Barry John Corr and then full back Scott Morrison saw his driving shot tipped over by the on form keeper.

Aberdeen were forced into an early substituion as Fergus Tiernan picked up what looked like a hamstring injury. Richard Buckley replaced him.

Motherwell had another opportunity to go ahead when Kenny Wrigh

t was sent clear again. With two defenders closing in on him, the young Scotland striker choose to try and chip Robertson from 30 yards. Unfortunately, his shot ended in the back of the Davie Cooper stand.

Just before half time, that man Wright had his third good chance to put Motherwell in the lead. A neat flick on from Kevin McDonald found Andy Scott. He in turn fed his striking partner who was clear of the last defender again. Once more the number 10 dragged his effort wide of the right hand post.

The second half was pretty much a non-event with both teams having very few chances to score. The only two chances of note were set pieces.

Aberdeen had a thirty yard pile driver from Clark turned round magnificently by Corr and Motherwell had an Andy Scott effort palmed away by Kris Robertson in the Dons goal.

Motherwell tried to change things around with Ryan Russell coming on for Shaun Fagan but the game ended in stalemate as both teams played out for a draw.
