Two more years for Hammell

hammellStevie is on his second spell with the Mighty 'Well following his return to us in 2008 when he and Jim Paterson crossed the border in different directions on the last day of the January transfer window. Paterson went to Plymouth and Stevie returned from his season and a half adventure to Southend United.

He joined initially in 1999 and didn't have to wait too long for his chance to make the left back slot his own. Another Stevie (McMillan) left for pastures new and the young Hammell stepped in. He became a fixture in the team and between his two spells he is not far short of 350 appearances.

The new deal will keep him in claret and amber till the summer of 2012. Speaking to the official site he said, "There's quite a few of the boys out of contract here and hopefully I'll be the first of many to stay on for a while yet. We've done fairly well this season so if we can keep the core of the squad together then who knows where we can go."

Monday's signings saw five of our U19s agree two year deals and they will join the senior squad next season. Jordan Halsman and Dario Quinn both defenders, midfielder Peter Innes and forwards Steven Lawless and Gary Smith were all born in 1991, our cup winning year.
