Despite his six years' apprenticeship at Motherwell which resulted in the 18 year old's senior debut this season he's off to Celtic. An unhappy John Boyle commented on the official site, "Paul has been at the club for six years and we have financed his development and nurtured his talent, culminating in his senior debut at the end of last season. We have also stuck by and supported him over those years through both personal issues and injury and felt we were due some degree of loyalty for our efforts. Sadly he has chosen to refuse our offers and move on to Celtic."
We received an undisclosed fee for the youngster who now seems destined to follow many others into Old Firm induced obscurity.
January's activity centred on loan players. We secured the services of Jutkiewicz and Ruddy from Everton. These two have become a mainstay of the team this season and became a priority for Craig Brown. He has retained their services for the rest of the season.
Moutaouakil returned to Charlton when his loan spell came to an end. The right back made fifteen appearances in claret and amber but failed to impress.
The one long time player who left was Stephen McGarry. He's off to the sun and A-League side Perth Glory after almost a hundred appearances for us. McGarry was one of many senior players who were sidelined by Jim Gannon and we wish him good luck with his new team.
We have signed up the New Zealander Michael McGlinchey for a loan until the end of the season. The Central Coast Mariners midfielder has three caps and he'll be hoping that a few months in the SPL will help his chance of appearing in the World Cup.
