Tom Aldred is the latest recruit to Motherwell as Stephen Robinson takes the central defender on loan from Bury for the rest of the season.
The 27 year old has some experience of the Scottish game as he had a short spell with Inverness is 2011. The 6’2” defender joined Bury last summer after a season and a half at Blackpool (where he played alongside Charles Dunne). Bury are currently holding up League One and have just sacked their manager.
Robinson has made no secret of his need for backup for the Kipré/Hartley partnership that has been the mainstay of our defence this season. Hartley has struggled with a foot injury in recent weeks and the lack of a suitable replacement was obvious.
Quoted on the official site the manager said, “We were clear from the start of the January window we were looking to increase our options in central defence. Tom ticks that box and arrives at the club with plenty experience under his belt. We tried to get him in the summer, so we are delighted to finally have him at Motherwell.”
Tom will wear the number 19 shirt.
