Europe is now out of sight, not that it was ever a major goal, so there is no reason not to start preparing for the next campaign. Finishing with some positive results remains important but blooding the youngsters who could be on the verge of stepping up is crucial.

The previously lauded Motherwell youth system creaked to a halt years ago and it is only recently that a touch of oil has been applied with Ben Hall and Chris Cadden following on from Lee Erwin.
Dom Thomas must be given a chance to sink or swim while with the U20s in the youth cup final for the first time in decades, there is clearly some quality in the ranks.
Whether or not they make it remains to be seen but with a competitive league expected next year, now is the time to experiment.
Mark McGhee has already achieved his goal for this season; it is now time to start working towards where we want to be in 2017.
