The furore has been caused by nothing more that the rumoured interest Terry Butcher has in attracting out of contract players Alex Burns and Steven Craigan to play at Fir Park next season.
The Jaggy chairman is annoyed that a club in interim administration is allowed to sign players! The official Thistle website carries the following quote from Hughes.
"If clubs are allowed to ignore financial constraints then the competition is not a level playing field. Perhaps we should have the same system as in France where irresponsible speculation results in the severest of sanctions, ask Monaco.
Motherwell Football Club is in interim administration which is in a state of legal limbo where you report to nobody. That is unacceptable.
When Partick Thistle were in financial difficulties and had not paid Forfar, we were barred from signing players because we had not honoured a football debt. In the long term football can only survive if the players and clubs honour their agreements with each other.
We sympahise with Motherwell's position but this is a very important issue for the football authorities and for football as a whole. We have now formally complained to the SPL and to the SFA."
Ex-‘Well secretary Alan Dick had a go too. He is quoted on the Harry Wraggs’ site saying, "Craigan has said he will do nothing about his future until he comes back (from international duty) and talks to us he is a man of his words."
But it seems that we will reek our revenge on the luvvies from Partick – they seem likely to sign Eddie Forrest – lol!
