The momentous vote on Independence Day delivered an outcome that many felt would never come to pass but while more decisions are yet to be made one certainty can be identified – Motherwell FC is likely to lose money next season.
The club is already committed to a budget that will support the playing and non-playing staff but the financial uncertainty that hangs over Fir Park makes it imperative that supporters dig into their pockets. The club followed our wishes in respect of the SPL vote and now we have to deliver our part of the bargain and stump up.
Can this lot be persuaded to come to Fir Park?
The club has launched the Steelmen Forever campaign to help deliver the resources needed to see us through the season. Fans have been asking how they could contribute and the club has provided a range of possibilities.
Suggestions include:-
Join the Well Society (and convince others to sign up)
Buy a season ticket (and encourage others too!)
Once in a while leave the season book at home and pay at the gate
Support the Motherwell v Club 12 match by boosting the crowd to 10,000
Buy a brick
Sponsor a player’s kit
The ideas are straightforward and simple to understand. All that’s needed to make the campaign a success is for us to spread the word wide and far. Organise a workplace raffle with entry to Fir Park as a prize. Dream up a suitable scheme and let the club know your thoughts.
The message from Leeann Dempster on the official website suggests that other clubs in the league are likely to launch similar initiatives and that the object of promoting and protecting the game is the prize.
If Scottish football fans wish our football league to prosper they have to give clubs a financial boost over the next few months and beyond. The Steelmen Forever campaign deserves our support.
