Home ties in the Scottish Cup are a rarity for us but St Mirren away is a good draw. Yes, they are top of the First Division but there is a gap between the clubs and if we play well we should be confident of progressing. Even better, a good away day is guaranteed for the 3000 away fans we have who magically appear every January!
We won at Love Street in the Autumn and we also defeated them in the previous meeting between the sides in the Scottish Cup – that time it was 2-1 at Love Street although we did manage to finish with a mere nine players!
The other ties are fairly dull although we are pleased by Hearts v Kilmarnock and to a lesser extent Dundee United v Aberdeen. The Old Firm and Hibs will progress with minimum effort though.
So, was it a good draw? Probably not, utterly average seems a fair assessment. Let’s hope we do the business in Paisley then we’ll worry about who comes next!
