Both stand-in full backs passed late fitness tests, Kerr partnered McManus in the centre and several of the rest had not trained in over a week. By the end of the match may were running on empty. They deserve a few days off; pity there's a trip to Tannadice on Wednesday!
The manager agreed with the analysis most fans had of the game. We were far from our best and we will play better but given the difficult circumstances there was satisfaction at the result. The priority now is to get eleven fit for Wednesday and to source a few players to strengthen the squad.
McCall was also happy to praise the goal scorer saying, “Hopefully it’s the beginning of something special...he’s got the ability and potential to be a good player for us”. Erwin has had to bide his time for a shot at first team action mainly due to a couple of bad injuries. The striker has worked his way through our youth system and spent much of last season on loan to Arbroath when he scored 8 from 11 appearances before returning to Fir Park.
Our new ‘keeper had an excellent game. He made several decent saves including a full stretch dive in the last few minutes and showed quick reactions to snatch the ball off the feet of incoming strikers. In the second half he produced an inch perfect delivery over 70 yards to release Ainsworth on the right wing. He’s made a fine start and seems set to make the starting place his own.
Next up is a trip to Tannadice.
