SPL Ten - No Sellout!

In the months since the mass resignation from the SPL there have been some hints that an accommodation with the big two is on the cards. The Old Firm offered concessions on the voting structure (with some exceptions) and it is suggested that a more equitable share of TV money could be on the way.

The Ten declare their intention to resign

The current issue seems to revolve around the so-called ‘new media’ rights. Celtic seem to be broadcasting the games via their web site in contravention of the SPL rules. The core issue remains unaltered. If Celtic (or Rangers) wish to broadcast coverage of their matches to overseas fans then surely they must have permission of the opposition.

The Ten must stand firm. The way forward has to recognise that the SPL clubs need each other. Domination by the Old Firm has to be rejected.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Dunfermline chairman, John Yorkston, said, "It will be a lot to expect it all to be settled on Monday. But we can move a fair bit down the road as we did make a lot of good progress the other week. “

"It would be a bit optimistic to expect everything to be agreed. The last meeting went very well although there are still a couple of issues which are problematic. I would say the internet is the main stumbling block. We have more or less accepted everything else. We are a lot happier on other issues now."

The Ten have the backing of their fans. The forum on the SFFA website demonstrates that the fans are fully behind the threatened breakaway. The representatives of the non Old Firm clubs have an opportunity to shape the future of Scottish football.

Stand firm lads – don’t sell us out!
