Motherwell's record in the opening fixture has been poor for many years. In the last 14 years we've recorded 3 wins, 3 draws and 8 defeats. The sorry tale is listed below.
Despite those poor statistics our recent seasons have surpassed expectations. That's not to suggest that the first result is irrelevant, it can offer a confidence boot or underline the need for more effort, but in a 38 game campaign the last fixture often has a more dramatic impact.
The opening SPFL fixture last season
There will be no repeat of last year's opening game at Easter Road nor any trip to Tynecastle. Instead, both Dens and New Douglas Park will be added to our itinerary. Travelling for the Ne'erday game should not be a problem with the prospect of a Lanarkshire derby
The usual TV warning applies to Wednesday's list - $ky, BT and BBC Alba will continue to cause frustration and annoyance by moving games for their convenience with fans who provide the backdrop and atmosphere given little consideration.
