Sour Grapes

Kevin Twaddle's revelation that he was unhappy with his treatment at Motherwell has come as no surprise. The thirty year old winger says he was "disappointed by the way I was treated by Eric Black".

Twads had played a dozen times for the 'Well in season 2001/2 but his last outing was in December. Since then, apart from a short loan spell at Somerset Park, he collected his (rather generous) wages for occasional stints at training.

He was one of the nine players who had their contracts terminated when John Boyle pulled the plug on our heavy wage bill and he became a spokesman who voiced the grievances of the redundant nine.

Despite his early promise and a couple of spectacular goals (a screamer at Parkhead comes to mind!), 'Well fans will probably come to the view that his lack of consistency was the crucial factor in Eric Black's decision to exclude him from the long term plan at Fir Park.

The fact that he was unable to hold his place against an emerging eighteen year old (Faddy) suggests that he suffered from a certain lack of motivation. But he now has another chance to make his mark in the SPL as Craig Levein gives him a one year contract with the Jambos.

No doubt he'll be looking forward to September 14 when the Mighty 'Well visit Tynecastle.
