Keith Jackson's story seems to have come out of the blue (or green in this case!). A bid in the region of £750 000 is one that Motherwell will find hard to resist. The doubling of the cheeky offer from Rangers during the winter transfer window comes when Skippy is in China with the Australian squad but there's no doubt that the phone lines will have been active and he'll know that a tempting move could be on the horizon during the summer.
Motherwell runs on a budget of around £3M a year, so a transfer fee which amounts to a quarter of that sum will have the treasurer rubbing his hands with glee. Whether Walter Smith can be tempted into a bidding war remains to be seen but as our competitive season is all but over with SPL safety virtually certain, there would seem to be no reason not to take the money and give the move to the bigger stage.
He is, by a considerable margin, the most talented player in our squad and given our inability to surround him with players of similar capability he is likely to flourish by playing with a team able to provide him with service.
When he goes he'll take our best wishes with him. He has given us goals by the bucket load and provided plenty of entertainment.
