Victoria Park, the home of Ross County, will be another ground ticked off the list for Motherwell ground hoppers. The friendly will also give the hardy few who travel a chance to say a proper farewell to Scott Leitch. Scott is now the manager up there and he will no doubt be eager to see how his new team fares against his old comrades.
For our part the result obviously doesn't matter too much but it would be nice to put in a good performance. With the start of the season only three weeks away new signings have still not flocked to Fir Park. Perhaps the squad players who get a run out in the North will actually have a big role to play in our season after all – even if it is just giving us a solid August while Malpas waits to bring in more players closer to the transfer deadline.
We have injuries that will keep O'Donnell, Kinniburgh and Corrigan from playing so it is a chance for some youngsters to show what they can do. The old guard will be crucial, as always, this season but we need to return to days when we play with a couple of youngsters in the squad (and use them!). They are the future of Motherwell in terms of giving us transfer fees but they also bring a lot of energy to the side and can stop things from going stale. Terry Butcher drifted away from playing the kids towards the end of his reign – it will be interesting to see whether Malpas continues this policy.
