It was hardly a surprise to discover the Motherwell manager fielding questions about the loss of three players in the last half hour of the match. It will be enough to say that he was not a happy man.
"We were dominating the game, I think we dominated the whole game. We made individual errors for their goals. We know Michael O'Halloran is right footed and we showed him inside and that's something we can deal with but at 2-1 I thought we were the dominant team and we were taking the game to St Johnstone, chance after chance. But the decision completely changes the game.
"I believe the linesman did give it. It's on the line. It's very likely that we'll appeal
Moving to the third red card.. "Charles Dunne doesn't touch him from what we see on the video footage. "
On the first St Johnstone goal, "If you watch it back it's a handball by Murray Davidson. He actually punches the ball and he gets the free kick.
"I can't control that decision making from the referee. I can make our defending better on one v one situations and that's the only thing I can concentrate on.
"I haven't seen the McHugh incident yet but if he's going to give a red then a yellow for anything then that's probably it in the modern game. Carl goes to ground, I haven't seen whether it's dangerous or not. I can see the point in that one, but the rest of them...well.
"I thought we played well the whole game. We made two mistakes. One was at the deflected goal the first time they came in our half and the other one was when O'Halloran cut inside Richard Tait when we're asking for him to be shown down the line. So that's things we can change. I thought we dominated large, large parts of the game and it's credit to my boys after the length of the Wednesday night game. They've shown great character. We'll pick ourselves up for Saturday.
"We can't change what the referee did, we can't change this result. We have to put it to bed and pick ourselves up again.
"We were right in the game and the decision kills it. Then they score the third goal and it's a walk in the park for them.
"The less I say about it (referee decisions) the less trouble I'm going to get in. I have to focus on Saturday against Ross County and make sure we get our league campaign off to a start.
