There was nothing resembling a threat on either goal in the first half. The only excitement came when the visiting keeper, Kurskis, took a nasty tumble and had to be helped from the pitch. An outfield player, John Armstrong, pulled on the jersey but we failed to trouble him. It was noted that the visitors had no keeper on the bench – it seems that Craig Gordon is banished even from the reserve substitute bench! Ross scores the winner
No doubt Hegarty would have mentioned the weakness now apparent in the opposition goal during his half time team talk. The obvious tactic of long range shots on target or high crosses into the box was not followed through as we continued the game with little chance of scoring. Indeed it was Meldrum who was more in the thick of things following a twenty five yard shot which rattled his bar. Minutes later he had to get down sharpish to smother a goal bound effort.
Molloy and McCormack looked lively at times and the striker's persistence paid off when he fell heir to some confusion in the Hearts' defence following Molloy's near post cross from the right wing. After a flap or two he was able to finish from seven yards. With only five minutes left on the clock it was certain to be the winner in a game where chances were very rare.
Keegan holds the ball up
Vaducz looked competent at best and Keegan was always keen to offer his services but without any end product. The referee's final whistle was cheered by the fans more for the prospect off finding some warmth elsewhere rather than as thanks to the players for any entertainment.
