Reserve Match: Motherwell v Celtic

We performed admirably in the first half and gave as good we got. Celtic had slightly more of the ball but our defence was looking strong with Partridge in commanding form in the middle. Celtic’s only chance came in 13 minutes when a cut back from the right presented Gardyne with an opportunity. He could only scoop the ball high into the Cooper Stand.

We lose the first goal

Ross Wallace was looking lively for the visitors but he struggled to produce an end product. Shortly after he zipped a cross out the park, Richie Foran forced Douglas into the only save of the half. He battled hard to get possession from a corner but couldn’t direct his header away from the centre of the goal.

The Celtic side were clearly given a roasting at half time and they opened the scoring early in the second half. Stephen McManus was not properly picked up at a corner and he headed in at the near post. Ten minutes later the game was all but over when Gardyne ran from deep to slot a nice finish past Corr.

We continued to work hard but we did not look like scoring. Foran missed a chance when he was offside and he also had a poor headed attempt from another corner. Our man of the match was David Cowan, who with the exception of one incident, stopped the tricky Wallace threatening. We worked hard but were beaten by a better team. Foran seemed a little out of sorts in front of goal and McBride looked livelier against Hibs last Saturday.

Oh well!
