If the defeat serves to remove any misplaced complacency that might have crept into the team’s psyche then perhaps the loss will turn out to be a price worth paying. The manager was relatively reserved with his post-match comments, speaking only of his disappointment and embarrassment.
A chance wasted
The weekend did bring some good news that is worthy of some comment. The club released details of the 2011/12 season ticket packages and in line with the clarion cry of making us the best “Family and Community Club” in the country the focus is on the encouragement of the next generation of Motherwell fans.
While adult, senior and student prices have been raised by £10, the costs for those under 17 have tumbled. There is now a flat rate of £80 (£70 until 31 May) for a seat in any of the three home stands. However that price will disappear entirely for many of our young supporters as the Cooper deal still allows any adult season ticket holder to claim up to two free season books for under 17s. That means 19 SPL games and one domestic cup tie are available for a senior and two kids for the princely sum of £175 (before 31 May). That’s less than £3 a game!
A slimmer version of that offer is now available to adults who sign up for the East and O’Donnell stands. They will be entitled to a ticket for one youngster under 13. That will ensure that fans will be able remain in their favoured stand and also have the privilege of grooming the next generation of Fir Park faithful.
Now, if only they can come up with a season ticket to let fans access away grounds at a reasonable price than that would be a coup!
