It was March 12 when we last played a ‘normal’ SPL fixture (and even that was overshadowed by the CIS cup final). The game was at Almondvale and the draw completed an unbeaten run of five games.

Since then we have been thumped 5-1, had an international weekend and been thumped 3-2 (don’t let this weekend’s score hide the truth – we were heavily outplayed).
Aberdeen await on April 9 at Pittodrie and with any luck we’ll have thrown off the CIS hangover at last.

The top six slot is tantalisingly close and there are several scenarios which could deliver the prize. The most satisfying of these would be a win next Saturday.

Terry suggested that we were down to the bare bones for this weekend’s game and hinted that Brian Kerr was merely filling a space on the bench. But he must be a contender for an appearance at some stage against the Dons. The absence of Phil O’Donnell from the midfield will force a change in any event.

What about Gerreee? Opinion was divided in the Cooper Stand on Saturday. Some argued that it was a disgrace that he was wearing a claret and amber strip while others suggested that anyone would be an improvement on Clarkson’s season horibilis. His ten minute stretch can hardly be used to judge his suitability.

We can only hope that Saturday’s squad return to the form which was evident a month ago. If they do then there may be reason for ‘Well fans to celebrate in
Union Street.
