Prudence is the Key

We had just entered the low point of interim administration after the TV money dried up. Like others we poured all the fruits from $ky straight into the inflated pockets of players and their agents. John Boyle was caught up in the silliness too and dug deep into his pockets.

It all ended in tears but at least our debt was cleared without the intervention of the bailiffs.

Terry Butcher worked miracles on the shoestring budget he inherited. There was no money for transfer fees and the wage structure the club could afford was mean at best. And yet we had some great seasons with our backs to the wall.

Despite a desire to retain our former left back our new manager is playing the same tune as his predecessor. “We offered Stevie the best deal we could and I am comfortable with that”.

The club should never again be exposed to the risks of the recent past. Gordon Brown's love for prudence in financial matters is well known and it seems that the same principles will be used to keep Claret and Amber out of the red.
