There was some surprise in the Fir Park stands when our leader announced that the last five games would be played with full strength squads and that the target was five wins. The disappointing results against Falkirk and Dunfermline produced an uncharacteristic outburst from the manager – “Some players have certainly played themselves out of the team and perhaps out of the club”.
The problem in trying to predict the starting eleven is made all the more difficult by the rare appearances of young fringe players in the last few weeks. Half a dozen of the current U19 squad have had their contracts renewed for a further season (Bobby Donnelly, William Soutar, Kenny Connolly, Mark Reynolds, Adam Coakley and Stephen Maguire). It would seem that one or two might find themselves in the big team sooner than they had anticipated.

There will be few tears shed about the fate of Livingston. The lack of atmosphere and the poor local support at Almondvale will not be missed. John Robertson will have his mind set on identifying those among his squad who have the qualities needed for next season's First Division and it should be the case that we can extend our 100% record against luckless Livi: 2-0 to Motherwell.
