The bookies don't think we have much of a hope - they are offering around 3/1 for a Motherwell win but the league table does suggest that there is a reasonable chance of an away win. Aberdeen have yet to record a home win in this season's campaign, they have one point from their two games and we are already four points ahead.
Calderwood has Severin, Considine and Diamond back in contention and Motherwell have no worries as far as injuries are concerned. In his mid week interviews our manager has been praising Porter's form in training and we can take that as a strong hint that he'll be in the starting line up. It is likely that, apart from a rotation of the strikers, the same team that faced Hearts will be sent up the tunnel.
Celebrations at Pittodrie
After five games it is apparent that McGhee has a clear view of our best eleven (or twelve). The addition of Hughes to the team has completed part one of the new manager's jigsaw and it has met with universal approval from the 'Well support. The refreshing style of play and the increased fitness levels have gelled to provide a level of confidence which has been much missed over the past year or two.
The only aspect of our game which causes concern is the conversion rate of chances into goals. There are few, if any, teams that are satisfied with the ability of strikers to get the ball into the net and in that respect we are not unusual. At the risk of stating the obvious, all we need are a few breaks and the goals should flow!
Let's hope that McGhee enjoys his return to Pittodrie and the expected warm welcome he'll receive from the Dons fans. He'll enjoy it even more if we come away with a 2-1 win.
