Preview: Inverness (h)

The picture of referee Kenny Clark testing the surface on Wednesday evening before Gretna's cup tie must suggest that Saturday's game is at risk. His lobbed ball landed with a thud near the centre circle and threw up a splash of mud. The pitch will not be able to recover from any sustained rainfall and an early check will be needed to alert supporters, especially those making the long trek down the A9.

Phil scored against ICT in August
CT have lost twice already this season to Mark McGhee's rejuvenated side but there area a few difficulties to overcome on this occasion if Motherwell are to make it three wins in a row.

Jim Paterson is out with a suspension and striker Chris Porter, who limped off on Tuesday night must be a doubt. McGhee said after the Hearts game that his inflamed knee "could keep him out". Steven McGarry pulled out of the midweek cup replay, declaring himself to be ill. There is no news his chances for this weekend.

We know all too well that our squad is too small for comfort and if all three of those regulars are missing then we will be stretched to and possibly beyond the limit. On the other hand opportunities will be given for others to stake a claim.

Spirits should be high in the dressing room. The fine win over Hearts and the news that Mark McGhee will not be leaving for the Scotland job will give the guys a lift and if we can muster the same passion as was evident on Tuesday then we must have a good chance of taking three points.

Inverness
will be missing McGuire (suspended) but they know that a win will move them to within a point of us. They will also be seeking some revenge for the two losses earlier in the season.

If we can play our game we'll win. 2-1 will do nicely.
