Certainly, the usual excuses we trot out when we struggle can't apply. Having had no game at the weekend we should be rested more than Hibs who slogged away to no avail at Ibrox in the cup. We're not playing on the Fir Park mud but instead the green grass of Leith and finally Hibs are not the type who will defend and do nothing but kick of us off the park. They will be physical but they are a football side.
They will be without Shiels who is suspended but they have a host of attacking midfielders to replace him. Our suspension hits much harder - we have seen McLean's attempts to stand in for him at right back and it is unthinkable he will be given the nod here. A more likely solution would be to play Simon Lappin as a full back as the other alternatives, Craigan or Malcolm, are equally horrific. There could well be a use for Malcolm as an anchor man though as someone picking up, and possibly kicking very hard, the skilful Hibs midfielders could be to our advantage.
The attack has been decidedly off colour of late and Smith and Murphy will feel the time for their turn is getting closer. However we must surely stick with Clarkson and McCormack for now and hope they come back to form rather than chancing the youngsters in a game of this magnitude.
It is not do or die for us but a win would really set us up nicely and hurt Hibs hugely. It is time to stand up and be counted and we will do exactly that as we win 2-1.
