Reports from the training base in
Mark McGhee again made clear that his plan for the team involves a different approach that that which existed under Malpas. He repeated his much rehearsed view, saying "None of this is a criticism of the previous regime, we are looking at a different type of player, more in the physical rather than the technical sense which hasn't been asked of them before".
It will be fascinating to see this change of style take effect. We know the strengths and abilities of those players who have been at the club for some time. Can they take on a more physical role and alter their approach to fit in with new demands? Will it prove to be a success? The new regime has certainly added a intriguing dimension to the first few games of the new season and with any luck we will see an increase in the numbers who support the team.
There is talk of Polish trialists and the possibility of some loan deals with McGhee's pal Felix Magathe. McGhee visited his ex team mate to pick up some ideas at the Wolfsburg training camp and it seems that we might have one or two Bundesliga players spending some time at Fir Park in the coming seasons.
For the fans this still remains the holiday season and although there will be a few friendlies in the second half of the month we have to keep a lid on expectations and wait awhile. Let's hope for a pleasant surprise when the new era begins at the start of August.
