The young Scots made the best of their limited attacking opportunities when Maloney slipped one past the keeper just after the hour. He had been on the park for less than five minutes and the goal earned the Scots three points.
Pearo (who played for ninety minutes) played deep on the left for much of the game and he contributed to the brave Scottish defending which was the hallmark of the match. He also provided some welcome relief to the pressed back line when he launched himself up the wing to lend assistance to the forwards.
Bonhof’s boys were fortunate to hold the lead as the Germans pounded our goal for the last half hour. In one frantic incident they beat the keeper, hit the post and forced two goal line clearance before the Scots headed away for a corner.
There was a sizeable presence of the Tartan Army at the game and they made contribution with cheering and singing throughout the game.
