As a rule, followers of the Mighty 'Well are well used to the press overlooking any football news from Lanarkshire in favour of whatever tittle tattle which can be teased from Ibrox or Parkhead but we have been spoiled in the last few weeks.
We were treated to reams and reams of speculation after the Malpas departure and almost as many when the unsuccessful Coakley bid was alive. Every day saw another name added to the potential list of candidates for the hot seat and the supposed plans for the renewal of the club under the control of a property developer were discussed.
After McGhee was appointed there was another flurry of speculation. Would he be able to work with Scott Leitch? Which players would he sign?
And so it comes as a bit of a shock to realise that since Simon Mensing joined up last week the stream of news, rumour and guesswork has dried up. But the quiet spell will soon come to an end. The players return from the beaches at the end of the week and the chatter will start again.
